First Fridays World’s Fair


FF August 5First Fridays is celebrating all the many cultures that make up our diverse city at our first annual World’s Fair! On August 5th, we will host music, dance, food, art, and community organizations from around Long Beach to bring us all together in the name of unity and peace!

  • To kick off the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio the Bixby Knolls runners will make a round from one side of the event to the other carrying the torch for World’s Fair!

  • Dancers from around the world will join us for the first annual World’s Fair including Dembrebrah Drums and Dance Ensemble, Grupo Folklorico, Bollywood, Maha and Company of CALB, Homeland Cultural Center B-Boys, Cardoa de Ourao Long Beach Capoeria group, Lyons Academy of Irish Dance, and the Long Beach Japanese Ondo group!
  • About U features gifts from all over the world and will have special deals on accessories from around the globe!
  • Many great local cultural organizations will join us for the night including Long Beach Human Trafficking Task Force, Peace Network, Anakbayan, Cambodian Film Festival and many more!martin espino
  • Take a trip around the world at our local restaurants! Atlantic has a variety of different foods from Mexican to Italian, Thai to Lebanese, Chinese to all American, Jordanian to Japanese, First Fridays has it all!
  • Drop into the Allery for its 6th art installation. This round features artists from FA4 Collective: Jeff Dulla, Romina Del Castillo, Liz C’ranza, and Gloria Sanchez have re-created desertscapes from Joshua Tree National Park. The allery install will kick off their artist residency in partnership with Joshua Tree National Park and the Joshua Tree National Park Council for the Arts. Also in the allery, DJ Tuan Digglz will be spinning some worldy the hits.
  • The Expo Art Center will have plenty of arts and cultural experiences for everyone, including our fresh POW! WOW! mural welcoming you inside the building!
    • The main room will have over 30 different artists with various styles from fine art to photography to animation!
    • Toaster Music has curated two amazing shows in the north and south galleries focusing on the art of tattoo with featured dancers Maha and Company.dulla art
    • The Kids Theatre Company will perform numbers from Airplane, Foot Loose, Snow White, and Alice Rocks in Wonderland.
    • The Back Room Theatre will host the First Fridays “Never Speak” poets.
  • AndyLiz is holding a huge First Fridays sale with 20%-30% off the entire store!
  • Take a break and grab a refreshing World’s Fair themed cocktail and dessert at EJ Malloy’s during the festivities.
  • Pack 32 will provide FREE s’mores all night and every First Fridays during summer at AndyLiz!

Also, for the night, sound selection by DJ Bill, Long Beach Creamery will be slinging their organic local treats, Agapantha will have a trunk show, and get a gift with any $75 purchase!
  • Secrets of the Islands will give away FREE 10 minute chair massages and leis! They will be taking future reservations!os z
  • The Better Half Boutique will raffle off handmade fair trade products from around the world such as falsa blankets from El Salvador, Sari scarfs from India, jewelry from Haiti, and much more! You can be eligible for the raffle with any $10 purchase from the shop. They will also give away “One World” unity bracelets, fresh popcorn, and tasty snacks from Stonewall Kitchen!
  • The newest public art addition is finished on the corner of Atlantic and San Antonio thanks to the hard work of Noel Madrid, Tracy Negrete, and the famous Bixby Knolls architect, Don Gibbs!
  • Pop into the Kids Craft Zone at Oh Very Young at their new location at 3803 Atlantic Avenue!
  • The Homeland Cultural Center will be pop locking with the help of Dubs One spinning all the best hip-hop and R&B and the First Fridays spray crew providing the art on 3939 South.

  • Goodwill is joining First Fridays to promote their new concept store, Edgar & James, which will take over the former Trader Joe’s building. This new concept is a high end curated store that carefully selects donated items.
  • Free Spirit Yoga will host an artist exhibit by Christopher Scott Geck with sound selection by Eusebio Akasa and Desirable D .
  • dembreahMOVE will perform The Beatles hit album “Revolver” in honor of the albums 50th anniversary at Ground Control near the Expo Arts Center!
  • Pop into the First Fridays Night Market at Bixby and Atlantic. The market features a farmers market, artisan crafters, and live music!
  • Stop by Jammin’ Music for their monthly student showcase and jam session!
  • FREE parking at the Bixby Business Center on the corner of Atlantic and San Antonio.

When the businesses start to close, “First Fridays After Hours” begins. Lola’s Mexican Restaurant, Nino’s Italian Restaurant, Weiland Brewery, Willmore, Atun, Lola’s and EJ Malloy’s go late into the night with food, drinks, and music. Why go home early? Stay out late and continue the energy Dine on Art-Lantic Avenue at one of our tasty restaurants then grab the trolley that will transport you venue to venue from designated stops at the participating businesses.
