First Fridays Spring Awakening


Spring has sprung in Bixby Knolls and we are ringing in the new season during First Fridays Spring Awakening with art, music, and plenty of spring awakening 2017community.

  • The Expo Art Center will be taken over by the bi-annual crafters event, Uptown Village Market. From locally made goods to Mother’s Day gifts, there is a little something for everyone.
  • The First Fridays poets are back and taking over The Cog and Crank.
  • Unplugged in the Bus is on its 5th trip during this First Fridays! Enjoy poetry, music, and story telling on your way to the festivities from the Michelle Obama Library! Festivities starts at 5pm!
  • Get your cheese fix at Cheese Addiction! They’ll be tabling in front of their soon to be open shop at 4238 Atlantic Avenue!
  • Secrets Of The Island will be giving Free 10 Minute chair massages!
  • Stop by The Historical Society of Long Beach to see their newest exhibit during First Fridays honoring the 75th anniversary of Pearl Harbor. Using photos, newspapers, items from its collection and others collected from the community, it will commemorate this important anniversary of the event that torpedoed the United States into the Second World War. Music will be provided by Chelsey Sanchez.
  • EJ Malloy’s will have spring cocktails specials like California Apricot Cosmo or Fresh Lime and Cucumber Martini! Don’t forget to finish it all off with a slice of Fresh Berry Crumble!
  • Kids, big and small, can get their faces painted at Boardwalk Properties!
  • Stop by Jammin’ Music for their monthly student showcase and jam session!nats work
  • Lola’s is getting in the Cinco de Mayo spirit and will host Centenario Tequila from 6pm-9pm to sample FREE tequila for those over the age of 21!
  • The Better Half Boutique will be celebrating Cinco de Mayo with a Sangria and Salsa Bar! They will also be handing out flower seed packets as a free gift with purchase to celebrate spring!
  • Gems & Jewels will be doing live engraving in front of their shop just in time to get something special made for Mother’s Day.
  • Head over to Pixie Baby for First Books! Story time starts at 6pm!
  • Free Spirit Yoga will feature the photography of Shannon Gilday and music by Yellr.
  • Drop into the Allery for our 9th art installation. This round’s featured artist is Nat Iosbaker. Also in the allery, DJ Bix will be spinning the hits.
  • Pop by The Bixby Trading Post and Sister LB to welcome them to the neighborhood on Bixby and Atlantic! You can pick up everything from locally grown produce to vintage clothing!
  • TALB will host  singer-songwriter Michael Barnum, cello soloist Daniel Smith, Long Beach Free Store, arts & crafts for kids, and free popcorn during First Fridays!
  • Mommy 4D will host a special Mothers Day arts and crafts table and photo booth during First Fridays!homeland
  • Drop the kids off at Digital Revolution for their First Fridays Minecraft work shop for only $25! Spaces are limited.
  • Learn to dance with trained salsa dancers at Elise’s Tea Room for their monthly First Fridays dance party.
  • FREE parking at the Bixby Business Center on the corner of Atlantic and San Antonio.
  • Special guest entertainment for the month: Vanessa Mardueno and Poetic Rising at Ground Control, Billy Rose at Edgar & James, Jordan Harris at Willmore Wine Bar, Elizabeth Rytting at DRNK, 8 Bit Jazz Heroes at Aura Thai/Bella Pizza, Chelsey Sanchez at Historical Society of Long Beach,  and  Yellr at Free Spirit Yoga,

  • The Homeland Cultural Center will be pop locking with the help of DJ Phil spinning all the best hip-hop and R&B and the First Fridays spray crew providing the art on 3939 North.
  • Get your vinyl fix with the Record Truck!

When the businesses start to close, “First Fridays After Hours” begins. Weiland Brewery, Willmore, The 4262, Lola’s, Dutch’s Brew House and EJ Malloy’s go late into the night with food, drinks, and music. Why go home early? Stay out late and continue the energy Dine on Art-Lantic Avenue at one of our tasty restaurants then grab the trolley that will transport you venue to venue from designated stops at the participating businesses.
